Family and Kids

Both of our kids were impacted by the challenges to the education and exams that COVID brought. For our eldest, this affected her A Levels, for our youngest, her GCSEs. However, both did amazingly, and we are so proud of them. After a short break to let things settle down, our eldest went onto university and gained a 1st Class Honours. Our youngest started along a varied career – deciding where she wants to go in life – and is flying along.

Our two girls both want / wanted to drive. In truth, we had hoped to upgrade our family cars some time ago, but the issues with our roof pretty much wiped out our savings. So, it was back to the drawing board on that one and we had to be prudent on getting the cars for the kids.

The other thing we had planned was holidays. In fact, both COVID and the extension roof debacle ruined a joint 50 / 18 / 16 holiday that was being planned! We had a caravan (and fairly robust car to tow it), and made a decision to sell both and go on those holidays that we always talked about, but never went on. The joint ‘big birthday’ trip was due to be our first, but we a) couldn’t go because of COVID, and b) can’t afford to go now as the pot is currently dry. We’ve since saved up and gone away – but that was long overdue. Whilst we had a good time – the delay was a pretty big disappointment that’s for sure! We are now continuing our regular – if not spread apart – trips to the places we really want to go on. Waiting for the kids to grow up as actually a great way to do it, as it becomes a holiday of four friends going away, rather than half of us spending most of the trip simply looking after the other half.
